    Gas Chambers in Animal Shelters

Saturday, January 10, 2009, 08:00 PM EST [General]

I find it absolutely alarming and unsettling that in this day and time we still have animal shelters using gas chambers as opposed to humane euthanasia by injection.  What can we do to make this change?  How can we help?  Any ideas, information would be greatly appreciated.

    Bugsy Ate the Whole Chicken!

Friday, November 28, 2008, 11:39 AM EST [General]

What to do when your dog gets into the leftovers...  This happened to me not too long ago and with the holidays here it can happen to you.

It was only a minute that I took my eyes off my 13 year old Pit Bull Terrier Bugsy to answer my cell phone when I noticed he had devoured the entire chicken!  Yes, the entire chicken- bones included.  Of course I freaked thinking he's going to die!  I immediately called my veterinarian who told me about a neat trick.

Take a couple of spoonfuls of hydrogen peroxide and pour it down his throat.  The amount differs on the size of the pet.  My dog is 65 pounds and growing it seems so three spoonfuls did the trick.  After a few minutes he regurgitated the chicken.  It wasn't pretty but he's alive!

Of course before you do anything always check with your veterinarian.

Lulu in need of a home after owner passed away!

Monday, November 17, 2008, 10:58 PM EST [General]

If anyone knows of a good home for this sweetheart please let me or Jan know!  Her owner passed away after being placed in a nursing home but made it her dying wish that Lulu be taken care of.

    Please read Lulu's description below..

    Lulu 7 111208.JPG

Lulu's faithful and loving human suffered a major stroke a couple weeks ago, and was taken to a nursing home where she was to have mended. She didn't mend. We are saddened to report that Jean Lee Fitzell, 81 years of age, and a long time vegan and animal activist passed this past Friday.
As an elder person, Jean Lee worried about the fate of her animals when her time came.   She once made arrangements with a rescue group/kennel - and prepaid for her dogs transitional care until another home could be found, but the kennel closed and her deposit was never returned.  Sadly, no other plans were ever made.  If Jean knew the fate of her dog was in peril, she would be devastated.
For the past 3 weeks, her beloved dog LULU has been boarded at Hollywood Animal Hospital.

Lulu is a very pretty 5-year old yellow Lab mix, and full grown at about 50 pounds. She is gentle, gets along with other dogs, (not sure about cats), loveable, good natured, well behaved and even though she is still relatively young, has lived as a loving companion for an ELDER PERSON for the past 4 years.
    Please contact:  gratefulpaws@bellsouth.netor 954-462-8840 after 7pm.
    Thanks so much-
