Should shelters request landlord approval prior to adopting a pet? If so, what are the terms and how does this affect your daily operations. Also, should shelters allow large or high energy dogs to be adopted into a home without a fenced in yard? Would love to hear your thoughts? Thanks! |

New just joined the community pages... Yes I feel that we should ask if they rent and then if they do provide the landlords name and contact information. I do verify this information and only takes a few minutes of my time to call them asking the address this person will be living apartment number and maybe a refference the landlord would know about to see if it matches what I have. Another thing we can do, though I don't usually request it, is a deed or tax coupon for proof of home ownership. I personally adopted my first dog as a renter. As for fence or no fence I think that goes with each dogs personality. I have personally used a variety of fences from 6 foot kennels to create large runs, 4 foot tall fences, even buried fencing down for diggers and have also used invisible fences with and without other fences. I think if the family can prove that they have the time space and energy to run and exercise this pet then the adoption could be granted. I have adopted to a single male who lived in an apartment who moved close to a dog park. he is an amazing canine dad and is better at exercising and socializing his pup than some other adoptors who only let the dog out to potty and run on their own. Sometimes fences become tools of habit. |
