Pet insurance has an important place amongst Community Education topics. Regardless of the current economic condition, adopters need to be prepared for the unexpected financial scenarios of an endoscopic bottle cap retrieval or cruciate ligament rupture repair surgery. To the pet owner, insurance addresses the importance of being proactive by providing a yet another scenario where adopters are encouraged to think ahead. Questions like: "Do you have a fence?" or "Do you have a regular Veterinarian?" are meant to estimate the adoption candidate's ability to mitigate risk (excuse the insurance lingo). So why should it be different when comes to their ability to pay for unexpected veterinary care in the case of an illness or accident? Talking about insurance is as close as it gets without having to ask the adopter for bank statement.
Many organizations already do this by selecting the right adoption candidate. The truth of it is the right candidate will go through incredible, unforgiving expenses to care for their new pet. Insurance is a powerful tool that can be offered to deal with that situation. In today's world, most agree it is easier to pay a set amount each month rather than come up with thousands overnight. It does not take much to reach 4 figures at the bottom of a clinic invoice; and unless you are paying cash, the majority credit alternatives will charge more in monthly interest than the average pet insurance premium. The ShelterCare Gift Program was developed to in 2002 to meet this need. The program has paid over $7.5 million in claims and insured close to 2 million adopted animals. Do you have a building or is your group working through foster homes? What you will need to even be concerned with really depends on your situation. Tell me a few basic things and I can give you a direction to start from and an idea of what you'll need so it won't be too overwhelming for you. Basics of your shelter, How many animals on an anerage and do you have very much traffic through there? I should be able to point you in the right direction and het you to someone who can take it from there. |
